Should you buy Priority Pass, or should you just pay for individual day passes when you need them? Here's the math.
Priority Pass Standard: $99/year + $35 per visit. Standard Plus: $329/year with 10 free visits, then $35/visit. Prestige: $469/year, unlimited visits.
Standard vs. day passes. The Standard membership at $99 + $35/visit beats walk-up day passes only when you'd be visiting the cheapest third-party lounges in the network ($40–$45 walk-up). At three or more visits per year to mid-tier lounges ($45–$55 walk-up), Standard begins to make sense. Below three visits, just pay walk-up.
Standard Plus vs. day passes. At $329 for 10 included visits, Standard Plus works out to $32.90 per visit if you use all ten. That beats nearly every walk-up day pass in the U.S. network, including The Club, Plaza Premium, and Aspire. The break-even is roughly seven visits per year — below seven, walk-up day passes win on cost.
Prestige vs. day passes. At $469 unlimited, Prestige needs roughly 10–13 visits per year to beat Standard Plus, and roughly 10 visits to beat walk-up day passes at $45 each. Prestige is the right choice only for travelers who genuinely use the network 12+ times annually.
The credit-card alternative. The cheapest paid-membership tier of Priority Pass is $99/year. The cheapest credit card that includes Priority Pass Select with two free guests is roughly $95 per year (the Citi Prestige is no longer available; the U.S. Bank Altitude Connect at ~$95 is the current floor). For travelers who want guest access and don't mind the credit card, an issuer card almost always beats a paid Priority Pass standalone subscription on a per-dollar basis.
When walk-up day passes are the right answer. Travelers who fly fewer than three round trips per year, who don't want to commit to an annual subscription, who travel solo (no guest fees to worry about), and who are willing to roll the dice on lounge availability at the door. For everyone else, an issuer card with bundled Priority Pass Select beats both walk-up day passes and direct Priority Pass subscriptions.
